During the PADI Open Water Diver course, you’ll learn what you need to know to explore the underwater world using scuba. Most people find it an exciting, rewarding challenge.
The PADI Open Water Diver course includes three parts:
- Knowledge Development
- 5 Confined Water Dives (located on Friday evenings at The Dolphin Leisure Centre, Poole)
- 4 Open Water Dives (located over 2 Sundays at Vobster Quay, Frome)
Knowledge Development covers the principles, concepts and terms you need to know for dive safety and enjoyment.
(To complete the practical sessions you will need to pay the remainder of the cost course once you've completed your online learning).
During the Confined Water Dives, you learn and practice scuba skills in a pool. You’ll enjoy making one or more minidives, which take you through the same steps you follow when you make open water dives. To complete training you practice, apply and demonstrate what you learn during four Open Water Dives at a local dive site.
Earning a PADI Open Water Diver certification shows that you met the course requirements. As a PADI Open Water Diver, you’ll be trained to a maximum depth of 18 metres/60 feet, and are qualified to dive in conditions as good as, or better than, those in which you trained. It’s just the beginning of a lifetime filled with dive adventures.
What equipment will I need?
All equipment and cylinder fills are included in the price of your course.
It is a requirement that you have your own mask, snorkel and neoprene boots for health & safety reasons. Check out our kit packages of recommended products to get you started:
For your pool sessions you will need your normal swimwear and a t-shirt or rash guard over the top. You’re more than welcome to wear a wetsuit, we recommend no thicker than a long 5mm for the pool. You will need the same for your open water sessions, plus neoprene boots – we will provide a 6mm semi-dry wetsuit.
After booking, you'll receive an email within 48 working hours with your PADI eLearning code and redemption link. As soon as you receive this start your learning and once it’s completed contact us to book onto your practical learning sessions. All of your eLearning must be completed before you attend your first pool session and the remaining balance of the course must be paid before you are booked onto any practical sessions. Your eLearning and practical training must be completed within 12 months of each other.
