What will you learn?

Surface marker buoys (SMBs) allow scuba divers to mark boundaries for mapping or search and recovery, alert boat traffic, or provide a line as a visual reference for ascending divers. During two dives, learn the proper techniques and protocols for using surface marker buoys and delayed surface marker buoys (DSMBs) in the local area.

You will learn about the different types of buoys and reels and during the 2 qualifying dives you will practice bottom and mid water deployment of a Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) and their use during a dive and on ascent.

What scuba gear will you use?

You’ll need your basic scuba equipment plus an SMB if you already have one. Different variations of SMB and reels will be provided for the course. We highly recommended trying out the different ones before buying anything.

Any equipment needed and cylinder air fills are included in your course. However, as you advance with your diving skills and experience, it is important to start compiling your own gear so you are comfortable in the water - pop into the dive centre for a chat, we're more than happy to help!

Please note course fees do not include entry into training sites or on boat dives if required. Parking fees at sites may also apply.
Vobster admission fees - £17 (members) £23 (non-members) per day
Boat fees - £60 per boat dive
