SSI Boat Diving Course
Diving from a boat opens up a world of sites that simply can't be reached from shore — offshore reefs, deep wrecks, and drift dives along the Dorset coastline. The SSI Boat Diving course teaches you the skills and etiquette needed to dive safely and confidently from any vessel, from RIBs and dive boats to liveaboards.
▸ Prerequisites
- Referral Diver (any entry-level scuba certification)
- Must be a certified Open Water Diver prior to final certification
▸ Minimum Age & Who It's For
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Any certified diver who wants to access offshore dive sites and dive from boats with confidence
▸ Locations
- 🏫 Classroom/theory: Online via MySSI
- ⛵ Open water dives: Sea (Dorset coastline) — conducted from a dive boat
✓ What's Included
- SSI digital learning materials via the SSI app
- 2 open water training dives from a boat with SSI Instructor
- SSI Boat Diving digital certification
✗ What's Not Included
- Equipment hire — students are encouraged to use their own kit; hire available at extra cost
- Boat charter fee (£65 per dive)
- Mask, snorkel and boots (must be purchased from Dorset Diving Services)
- Transport to/from the harbour
ⓘ Good to Know
- Maximum depth: 30m (age 15+) / 18m (age 12–14) / 12m (age 10–11)
- Sea dives are subject to weather and tidal conditions — your instructor will plan around the best conditions
- Dorset has some of the UK's best boat diving — wrecks, reefs, and drift dives all on the doorstep
- A medical self-declaration form is required before in-water training begins
