SSI Dry Suit Diving — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Stay warm, comfortable, and extend your diving season year-round with the SSI Dry Suit Diving specialty. This course teaches you how to use a drysuit safely and effectively so you can explore cooler waters with confidence. It provides your academic training and certification credit only, allowing you to complete the theory online before arranging your in-water sessions with an SSI Dive Centre.

What you’ll learn online

• The advantages of drysuit diving and how drysuits work
• Different drysuit types, materials, seals, and valves
• Undergarments and thermal protection for various environments
• Buoyancy control and trim when using a drysuit
• Entry techniques, inflation/deflation management, and ascents
• Maintenance, storage, and long-term care of your drysuit
• Troubleshooting and dealing with common drysuit problems

Required practical training (booked separately)

To complete your full SSI Dry Suit Diving certification, you must complete in-water training sessions with an SSI Instructor. These sessions will allow you to apply your theory in a controlled environment and typically include:

• Pool or confined water session to familiarise yourself with drysuit operation
• Two open water dives demonstrating buoyancy control and safety skills
• Managing ascents, descents, and inverted positions
• Emergency drills for stuck inflators and suit floods

The in-water training is not included with this eLearning product and must be arranged separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Dry Suit Diving specialty.

Important

• Always confirm that your chosen dive centre offers SSI Dry Suit Diving training and can provide a suitable drysuit for your size if you do not own one.
• You must hold an Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) to participate in the in-water dives.
• Completing this course will expand your diving opportunities to include cooler climates and UK diving all year round.
