It includes your academic training and certification credit only, allowing you to complete all theory online before joining optional in-water experiences with an SSI Dive Centre.

Optional practical training (booked separately)
For those who wish to take their learning further, many SSI Dive Centres offer in-water observation dives to see mantas in their natural habitat. These sessions may include:
- Observing manta ray behaviour at cleaning stations
- Identifying individual mantas using unique spot patterns
- Recording sightings for citizen science databases
- Learning techniques for safe, respectful manta encounters
These practical sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be arranged separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Manta Ray Ecology programme and suitable dive locations.
Important
- Always confirm that the dive centre you plan to use offers SSI Manta Ray Ecology training and that manta observation dives are available and conducted responsibly.
- You do not need to be a certified diver to complete this online course, but any in-water activities require at least an Open Water Diver certification.
- A keen interest in marine life and conservation will make this course even more enjoyable and rewarding.
