SSI Navigation Course
Never get lost underwater again. The SSI Navigation course teaches you how to use a compass, natural references, and kick-cycle counting to navigate precisely underwater — so you can find your way back to the exit, locate specific dive sites, and dive with greater independence and confidence.
▸ Prerequisites
- Referral Diver (any entry-level scuba certification)
- Must be a certified Open Water Diver prior to final certification
▸ Minimum Age & Who It's For
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Any certified diver who wants to navigate with confidence and dive more independently
▸ Locations
- 🏫 Classroom/theory: Online via MySSI
- 🌊 Open water dives: Vobster Quay, Frome
✓ What's Included
- SSI digital learning materials via the SSI app
- 2 open water training dives with SSI Instructor
- SSI Navigation digital certification
✗ What's Not Included
- Equipment hire — students are encouraged to use their own kit; hire available at extra cost
- Vobster Quay entry fee (£26 per day)
- Mask, snorkel and boots (must be purchased from Dorset Diving Services)
- Transport to/from venues
ⓘ Good to Know
- Maximum depth: 30m (age 15+) / 18m (age 12–14) / 12m (age 10–11)
- Navigation is a mandatory dive in the SSI Advanced Open Water and Dive Guide programmes
- A medical self-declaration form is required before in-water training begins
