SSI Scuba Diver Course

The SSI Scuba Diver course is a shorter, focused certification that gets you diving in open water quickly. Certified to 12 metres, it's the perfect stepping stone for those who want to start diving sooner — and it counts fully towards your SSI Open Water Diver certification when you're ready to continue.

▸ Prerequisites

  • None — no prior diving experience required
  • A water fitness evaluation is completed as part of the course: 200m swim (any style) or 300m with mask, fins & snorkel, plus a 10-minute survival float or tread water

▸ Minimum Age & Who It's For

  • Minimum age: 10 years old
  • Anyone who wants to get certified quickly, or who wants to try open water diving before committing to the full Open Water Diver course

▸ Locations

  • 🏫 Classroom/theory: Online via MySSI & Dorset Diving Services, Poole
  • 🏊 Pool sessions: BCP Dolphin Leisure Centre, Poole
  • 🌊 Open water dives: Vobster Quay, Frome

  • Full equipment hire from head to toe — wetsuit, BCD, regulator, fins & tank

✗ What's Not Included

  • Mask, snorkel and boots (must be purchased from Dorset Diving Services)
  • Vobster Quay entry fee (£26 per day)
  • Transport to/from venues

  • You must pass the Scuba Diver final exam to certify
  • Your Scuba Diver certification counts fully towards SSI Open Water Diver when you're ready to continue
  • A medical self-declaration form is required before in-water training begins
