SSI Waves, Tides & Currents Course
Understanding the sea is what separates a good diver from a great one. The SSI Waves, Tides & Currents course teaches you how ocean forces work — how to read conditions, plan dives around tides and currents, and dive safely in dynamic environments. Essential knowledge for any diver heading into UK coastal waters.
▸ Prerequisites
- Referral Diver (any entry-level scuba certification)
- Must be a certified Open Water Diver prior to final certification
▸ Minimum Age & Who It's For
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Any certified diver who wants to dive confidently in tidal and current-affected waters
▸ Locations
- 🏫 Classroom/theory: Online via MySSI
- 🌊 Open water dives: Sea (Dorset coastline)

- SSI digital learning materials via the SSI app
- 2 open water training dives with SSI Instructor

✗ What's Not Included
- Equipment hire — students are encouraged to use their own kit; hire available at extra cost
- Boat diving fee (£65 per dive) if boat entry is required
- Mask, snorkel and boots (must be purchased from Dorset Diving Services)
- Transport to/from dive sites
ⓘ Good to Know
- Maximum depth: 30m (age 15+) / 18m (age 12–14) / 12m (age 10–11)
- Sea dives are subject to weather and tidal conditions — your instructor will plan around the best conditions
- A medical self-declaration form is required before in-water training begins
