Unlock the history beneath the waves. Wrecks are time capsules of the past and hotspots for marine life.

The SSI Wreck Diving specialty gives you the skills to safely navigate and explore shipwrecks. We focus on specialized search techniques, pre-dive planning, and how to avoid common hazards. With the Dorset coast boasting some of the best wreck diving in the UK, this course is a local essential.

The Experience: You'll master the theory online before completing your training dives at Vobster Quay or on one of our local charter boats. Note: This course does not include overhead penetration (see Advanced Wreck for that!).

Common Questions

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No athlete status required! You just need to be comfortable in the water. You'll need to show you can swim 200m (any style, no time limit) and float for 10 minutes. If you're at all nervous, come for a 'Try Scuba' session first!
What if I have trouble equalising my ears?
This is our #1 question. We teach you multiple techniques to "pop" your ears comfortably from day one. We go very slowly, we never rush, and we make sure you're comfortable every inch of the way.
How long does it take to get certified?
It’s flexible, but typically involves: Digital learning at home, one or two Friday night pool sessions in Poole, and two days of open water diving (4 dives total). We work around your schedule.
Are there any medical restrictions?
Most people can dive! You’ll fill out a standard form. If you have history of asthma or heart/lung conditions, you might just need a quick doctor’s sign-off. Message us and we’ll send you the form to check.
Do I have to buy all my own equipment?
No. We provide all the specialized kit (Regulators, BCD, Cylinders, Wetsuits) for the whole course. Most divers eventually want their own mask and fins, but we've got you covered for your training.
Is it dangerous?
Scuba is incredibly safe when taught correctly. You're always with a pro. And sharks? In the UK, we only see shy Dogfish and Catsharks—they are small, harmless, and a total highlight to spot!
