Shipwrecks are time capsules — windows into history draped in marine life. The SSI Wreck Diving course teaches you the skills and knowledge to safely explore wrecks, from navigation and buoyancy control in confined spaces to understanding the hazards unique to wreck environments. An unforgettable specialty for any adventurous diver.

▸ Prerequisites

  • Referral Diver (any entry-level scuba certification)
  • Must be a certified Open Water Diver prior to final certification

▸ Minimum Age & Who It's For

  • Minimum age: 10 years old
  • Certified divers who want to explore the fascinating world of shipwrecks safely and confidently

▸ Locations

  • 🏫 Classroom/theory: Dorset Diving Services, Poole
  • 🌊 Open water dives: Vobster Quay, Frome

  • SSI digital learning materials via the SSI app
  • 2 open water training dives with SSI Instructor
  • SSI Wreck Diving digital certification

✗ What's Not Included

  • Equipment hire — students are encouraged to use their own kit; hire available at extra cost
  • Vobster Quay entry fee (£26 per day)
  • Mask, snorkel and boots (must be purchased from Dorset Diving Services)
  • Transport to/from venues

  • Maximum depth: 30m (age 15+) / 18m (age 12–14) / 12m (age 10–11)
  • Vobster Quay has several purpose-sunk wrecks ideal for training
  • A medical self-declaration form is required before in-water training begins
