Optional practical training (booked separately)

The SSI Science of Diving specialty is a non-diving course, so there are no required in-water sessions to earn your certification. However, if you wish to apply your theoretical knowledge in practice, you can arrange additional skills development dives with an SSI Instructor. These optional sessions may include:

• Advanced dive planning and gas management exercises
• Equipment setup, inspection, and maintenance workshops
• Simulated dive problem-solving and emergency management

Any optional practical sessions must be arranged separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre that offers customised skills development.

Important

• The Science of Diving course is a prerequisite for the SSI Divemaster and other professional-level programmes.
• You must hold an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent to enrol in this course.
• No dives are required for certification, but practical training can enhance your understanding.
