SSI Divemaster — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Turn your passion for diving into a professional pathway with the SSI Divemaster programme. This course is your first step into the world of dive leadership, giving you the knowledge and confidence to assist instructors, guide certified divers, and manage dive activities. This product includes your academic training and certification credit only — the practical training must be completed separately with an authorised SSI Dive Centre.

What you’ll learn online

  • The role and responsibilities of an SSI Dive Professional
  • Dive leadership, group management, and risk assessment
  • Supervision and control of divers in confined and open water
  • Physics, physiology, and decompression theory review
  • Detailed dive planning, navigation, and environmental awareness
  • Professional ethics, communication, and customer care
  • Dive centre operations and SSI system standards

Required practical training (booked separately)

To complete your certification, you’ll need to complete the in-water and practical training component with an SSI Instructor or Instructor Trainer. The practical programme includes:

  • Assisting in SSI Open Water Diver and continuing education courses
  • Conducting dive briefings, site assessments, and leading certified divers
  • Skill circuit practice and demonstration-quality performance
  • Mapping and managing open water dive sites
  • Emergency planning and rescue scenario management
  • Confined and open water workshops focused on supervision and control

These sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be arranged separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Divemaster training programme.

Important prerequisites

  • You must be certified as an SSI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) and have completed the Diver Stress & Rescue course.
  • A minimum of 60 logged dives and a valid first aid/CPR certification (within 24 months) are required before certification.
  • You’ll need to complete an SSI Professional Application and a diving medical signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Before booking, confirm that the dive centre you plan to use offers the SSI Divemaster programme and has qualified staff for your practical sessions.
