SSI Scuba Diver — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

The SSI Scuba Diver course is the perfect way to begin your underwater journey if you’re short on time or not quite ready to commit to the full Open Water Diver course. This certification allows you to dive under the direct supervision of an SSI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 metres. This product provides your academic training and certification credit only — you’ll complete all theory online before booking your confined water and open water sessions with an SSI Dive Centre.

What you’ll learn online

• The basic principles of scuba diving and dive equipment use
• Understanding pressure, buoyancy, and breathing techniques underwater
• Safe diving practices and the buddy system
• Planning and conducting simple, supervised dives
• Managing common underwater situations and improving comfort
• Environmental awareness and responsible diving habits

Required practical training (booked separately)

To earn your SSI Scuba Diver certification, you must complete both confined water (pool) sessions and open water dives with an SSI Instructor. These sessions will help you develop essential scuba skills and confidence underwater. Typical sessions include:

• Confined water training to learn fundamental scuba skills
• Two open water dives to practise those skills in real conditions
• Buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and safety ascents
• Supervised dive planning and communication underwater

These in-water sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Scuba Diver course.

Important

• Please confirm that your chosen dive centre offers SSI Scuba Diver training before booking the practical sessions.
• You must be at least 10 years old and comfortable in water to enrol.
• Your SSI Scuba Diver certification can be upgraded to Open Water Diver at any time by completing the remaining academic and in-water training.
