SSI Advanced Wreck Diving — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Take your wreck exploration skills to the next level with the SSI Advanced Wreck Diving specialty. This course teaches you how to safely penetrate and navigate the interior of wrecks using lines, lights, and redundancy equipment. It includes your academic training and certification credit only, giving you the theoretical knowledge to prepare for advanced wreck penetration training, which must be completed in person with an SSI Dive Centre.

What you’ll learn online

• Use of guideline reels and redundant lighting systems
• Managing visibility loss and confined-space emergencies
• Gas planning, decompression awareness, and team communication
• Hazard identification and risk management inside wrecks
• Preserving underwater heritage and minimising environmental impact

Required practical training (booked separately)

To earn your full SSI Advanced Wreck Diving certification, you must complete in-water wreck penetration dives with an SSI Instructor. These dives provide the hands-on skills and experience needed for safe wreck entry and typically include:

• Confined water line drills and emergency exit simulations
• Penetration and navigation using primary and secondary reels
• Air sharing and zero-visibility escape exercises
• Gas management and team coordination during penetration dives
• Two to four open water wreck penetration dives under supervision

The in-water sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Advanced Wreck Diving specialty.

Important

• Always confirm that your chosen dive centre offers SSI Advanced Wreck Diving training and has access to suitable wrecks for penetration dives.
• You must hold Wreck Diving and Deep Diving certifications (or equivalent) before starting the practical sessions.
• Technical divers or those training for overhead environments will benefit from pairing this course with Sidemount Diving or Extended Range Foundations.
