The ultimate recognition for a versatile diver. Unlike other agencies, SSI Advanced Open Water is a milestone earned through experience and education.

To earn this rating, you will complete four specialized programmes and log 24 dives. This package is the most popular way to fast-track your skills, usually combining Deep, Navigation, Night/Limited Vis, and Enriched Air Nitrox.

Why choose AOW? It proves you aren't just a holiday diver. You'll be qualified to dive to 40m and have the navigation and safety skills to handle a huge variety of conditions—making you the ideal buddy on any dive boat.

Common Questions

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No athlete status required! You just need to be comfortable in the water. You'll need to show you can swim 200m (any style, no time limit) and float for 10 minutes. If you're at all nervous, come for a 'Try Scuba' session first!
What if I have trouble equalising my ears?
This is our #1 question. We teach you multiple techniques to "pop" your ears comfortably from day one. We go very slowly, we never rush, and we make sure you're comfortable every inch of the way.
How long does it take to get certified?
It’s flexible, but typically involves: Digital learning at home, one or two Friday night pool sessions in Poole, and two days of open water diving (4 dives total). We work around your schedule.
Are there any medical restrictions?
Most people can dive! You’ll fill out a standard form. If you have history of asthma or heart/lung conditions, you might just need a quick doctor’s sign-off. Message us and we’ll send you the form to check.
Do I have to buy all my own equipment?
No. We provide all the specialized kit (Regulators, BCD, Cylinders, Wetsuits) for the whole course. Most divers eventually want their own mask and fins, but we've got you covered for your training.
Is it dangerous?
Scuba is incredibly safe when taught correctly. You're always with a pro. And sharks? In the UK, we only see shy Dogfish and Catsharks—they are small, harmless, and a total highlight to spot!
