SSI CCR Extended Range — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Expand your diving limits with the SSI CCR Extended Range programme — your next step in advanced closed-circuit rebreather diving. This specialty trains you to plan and conduct decompression dives using a CCR unit and trimix or nitrox gas blends to depths of up to 45 metres (148 feet). This product provides your academic training and certification credit only; the required in-water dives must be booked separately with an authorised SSI Extended Range Instructor.

What you’ll learn online

  • Advanced rebreather theory and decompression planning
  • CCR setup, calibration, and pre-dive check procedures
  • Gas management and bailout planning for extended range dives
  • CCR maintenance, scrubber management, and oxygen control
  • Decompression procedures using multiple gas mixtures
  • Emergency protocols, failure handling, and bailout ascent planning
  • Team diving, awareness, and situational management
  • Environmental and safety considerations for deep CCR diving

Required practical training (booked separately)

To earn your full certification, you’ll need to complete the in-water training dives with an authorised SSI Extended Range Instructor. These practical sessions typically include:

  • Progressive CCR dives using nitrox and trimix gas blends
  • Multiple decompression dives up to 45 metres (148 feet)
  • Emergency bailout ascents and system failure management
  • CCR gas-switching, loop control, and buoyancy refinement
  • Simulated malfunction drills and team communication exercises
  • Post-dive analysis and maintenance best practices

These sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Extended Range Dive Centre offering CCR Extended Range training.

Important prerequisites

  • You must be at least 18 years old and certified as an SSI CCR Diver (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 50 logged dives, including at least 25 hours on the specific CCR unit you plan to use, is required before beginning practical training.
  • A current diving medical signed by a physician within the last 12 months, plus valid first aid, CPR, and oxygen administration certifications, are required.
  • Divers must use an approved CCR model and demonstrate full operational knowledge of its systems and safety procedures.
  • Confirm that the dive centre you plan to use offers the SSI CCR Extended Range programme and has suitable conditions for deep CCR training.
