SSI Computer Diving — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Make the most of your dive computer and unlock the full potential of modern dive technology with the SSI Computer Diving specialty. This course teaches you how to plan and monitor your dives safely and efficiently using a dive computer — helping you extend bottom times, stay within limits, and dive smarter. It includes your academic training and certification credit only, allowing you to complete the theory online before booking optional practical dives with an SSI Dive Centre.

What you’ll learn online

• Understanding dive computer functions and display information
• How computers calculate depth, time, and nitrogen loading
• Planning dives and surface intervals using your computer
• Adjusting settings for nitrox, altitude, and personal factors
• Interpreting no-decompression limits and ascent rate indicators
• Using dive logs and download data for performance tracking
• Battery care, firmware updates, and troubleshooting

Optional practical training (booked separately)

While the SSI Computer Diving specialty can be completed through eLearning alone, many divers choose to add in-water sessions to gain real experience using their own device. These optional dives typically include:

• Planning and executing dives using your personal dive computer
• Monitoring nitrogen loading, ascent rate, and safety stops in real time
• Simulating emergency scenarios such as missed stops or rapid ascents
• Comparing computer-based and manual dive planning

These sessions are not included with this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the Computer Diving specialty.

Important

• Always confirm that your chosen dive centre offers SSI Computer Diving training before booking any in-water sessions.
• You must be at least 10 years old and hold an Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) to participate in optional dives.
• You’ll need access to a dive computer — either your own or one provided by the training centre.
