SSI Extended Range Wreck Diving — eLearning & Certification Credit Only

Unlock new levels of adventure with the SSI Extended Range Wreck Diving specialty. Designed for experienced technical divers, this course combines advanced wreck penetration skills with deep diving and decompression procedures. This product provides your academic training and certification credit only, giving you the theory and safety knowledge before you complete your in-water training.

What you’ll learn online

  • Advanced wreck diving theory and SSI Extended Range standards
  • Technical equipment configuration and stage cylinder management
  • Gas planning, decompression procedures, and redundancy principles
  • Penetration planning, mapping, and line-laying in complex wrecks
  • Emergency procedures, including entanglement and lost-line drills
  • Team awareness, stress management, and gas-switch protocols
  • Environmental responsibility and wreck conservation ethics

Required practical training (booked separately)

To earn your full certification, you must complete the in-water training dives with an SSI Extended Range Instructor. These sessions are designed to develop your mastery of deep wreck exploration and technical procedures, including:

  • Complex wreck penetration dives at depths up to 45 metres (depending on certification level)
  • Guideline setup and navigation through multiple entry and exit points
  • Simulated equipment failures and emergency gas-sharing scenarios
  • Stage cylinder use and gas-switching under overhead conditions
  • Decompression stops, ascent management, and problem-solving drills
  • Team coordination and situational awareness in confined environments

The practical sessions are not included in this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Extended Range Dive Centre that offers Extended Range Wreck training.

Important prerequisites

  • You must be at least 18 years old and certified as an SSI Extended Range Diver (or equivalent technical-level certification).
  • A minimum of 50 logged dives is required before starting the practical training, including experience with wreck and decompression diving.
  • Valid Diver Stress & Rescue, Deep Diving, and Enriched Air Nitrox certifications are required, along with proven experience using redundant gas systems.
  • You must have a valid diving medical and current first aid/CPR training before participating in in-water sessions.
  • Always confirm that the dive centre you plan to use offers SSI Extended Range Wreck training and has appropriate wreck sites for technical diving.
