It provides your academic training and certification credit only, allowing you to complete the theory online before booking your in-water training with an SSI Dive Centre.
What you’ll learn online

- Pre-dive preparation, inspection, and care of DPV equipment

- Planning DPV dives, including air consumption and distance management
- Communication and buddy procedures while using a DPV
- Emergency procedures and handling common DPV problems
- Environmental awareness and protecting marine life during DPV dives
Required practical training (booked separately)
To earn your full SSI DPV Diving certification, you must complete in-water training dives with an SSI Instructor. These sessions give you hands-on experience in the use and control of a DPV and typically include:
- Two open water training dives
- Pre-dive checks, tethering, and proper descent procedures
- Hovering, turns, and speed control while operating the DPV
- Buddy awareness and navigation while travelling long distances
- Emergency drills including runaway DPV and loss-of-control scenarios
The practical sessions are not included in this eLearning product and must be booked separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Dive Centre offering the DPV Diving specialty.
Important
- Always confirm that your chosen dive centre offers SSI DPV Diving training and has DPVs available for training or rental.
- You must hold an Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) and have good buoyancy control to participate in the in-water sessions.
- This course is a great way to prepare for technical diving or underwater exploration in areas with strong currents or large dive sites.
