SSI SCR Extended Range — eLearning & Certification Credit Only
Take your semi-closed rebreather diving to the next level with the SSI SCR Extended Range programme. This advanced course teaches you how to safely plan and conduct decompression dives using a semi-closed rebreather system to depths of up to 40 metres (130 feet). This product provides your academic training and certification credit only; all practical training dives must be booked separately with an authorised SSI Extended Range Instructor.
What you’ll learn online
- SCR diving theory and advanced gas management concepts
- Equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance procedures
- Decompression planning and gas-switching with multiple nitrox mixes
- Emergency and bailout strategies for semi-closed systems
- Environmental and physiological considerations for deeper SCR dives
- Team awareness, dive planning, and problem management protocols
- Post-dive analysis and scrubber life management
Required practical training (booked separately)
To complete your certification, you’ll need to participate in in-water training dives with an authorised SSI Extended Range Instructor. These sessions are designed to reinforce your theoretical learning through practical, real-world application and typically include:
- Progressive semi-closed rebreather dives using enriched air nitrox
- Decompression procedures and ascent management up to 40 metres
- Simulated equipment malfunctions and bailout ascent drills
- Gas-switching, buoyancy control, and scrubber monitoring exercises
- Team protocols, communication, and emergency coordination underwater
The practical training is not included with this eLearning product and must be arranged separately with Dorset Diving or another SSI Extended Range Dive Centre that offers SCR Extended Range training.
Important prerequisites
- You must be at least 18 years old and certified as an SSI SCR Diving (or equivalent) diver.
